Tiny Acts of Bravery: Stacey Duguid

Season two of my podcast continues with the bold artist & writer who made huge changes to her life in her 40s; here's what she has learned about bravery as she rebuilt an alternative setup

Series 2 of Tiny Acts of Bravery is available to you, my lovely Substack community, exclusively on this platform, for paid subscribers.

I was really excited to have an open and frank conversation with Stacey Duguid. She is a former fashion journalist turned artist, who five years ago, bravely uprooted her seemingly perfect life and started again. She writes about this with searing honest in her book In Pursuit of Happiness: Mating, Marriage, Motherhood, Money, Mayhem.

We discuss how bravery can sometimes feel like stupidity, how you need to be your own safe harbour, the importance of therapy, whether art feels braver than writing, the impact of Stacey’s ‘neglected’ childhood on how she raises her own children, teens and screen time - and why she was shocked at the reaction to the Netflix series Adolescence.

We also talk about midlife, how everything she does now is in service of other women, depression medication, that a ripped up painting could be a metaphor for life - and ultimately, how your past should never define you.
