Reading through your comments and learning more about YOUR stories is one of my favourite things about writing on Substack. It’s been really beautiful getting to know you all a bit more deeply, and last week was no exception. On Tuesday, I wrote about what it felt like to live with depression, and specifically what I had learned about it from emerging from post-natal depression, twice, with my third and fourth children. Lots of you also shared your experiences of depression - what it felt like, and how to come through it - in the comments, and lots of you messaged me privately too.
And the message I heard most clearly from you was “I wish more people would talk about depression, as hearing other people talk about it has really helped me understand my own depression.”
I found this message really moving. I’m extremely pleased that reading my piece was helpful in some ways to lots of you, and this week, I wanted to share this video which goes into my experiences of depression a bit more deeply, and how I got out of it.
On a completely different point, I’ve also written something about my experiences of being in DC right now, and why I’m feeling a surprising sense of optimism, despite the pretty terrible news. I’ve shared some more pictures while it’s all fresh in my mind too, as when you read this, I’ll be in England! I’m there all this week for some family stuff, and I’m also really looking forward to seeing a few of you on Monday 23rd, for a day retreat. I LOVE teaching, and feel a real sense of joy watching people arriving, sometimes feeling a bit nervous, in the morning, then leaving late afternoon with a greater sense of their story, how to express it, and how to tap into the creativity. I’ve also released two new dates this autumn - 7th September and 8th September - with an early bird rate which has been sent out to paid subscribers.
